In Georgia any moving violation is a criminal misdemeanor. This is different from other states where a speeding citation means you can either pay a fine or take a defensive driving class and the citation would be dismissed.

I RECEIVED A TRAFFIC CITATION WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT?
There are several options when it is time to deal with that traffic ticket. For some tickets, one option is to pay the citation before the court date that the officer gave you. Depending on the type of ticket the officer gave you there will be a fine associated with the citation as well as points for your drivers license.
Another way is to enter a plea of Nolo Contendere or No contest. A plea of Nolo works the same as a guilty plea BUT will prevent points from going on your license. Unfortunately if you pay the fine and enter a plea to the charge, it won't prevent a reaction from your insurance company and a plea of no contest does not have any affect on how the insurance company treats the “cost” for your vehicle insurance policy. Insurance companies can raise YOUR INSURANCE RATES if you violate the rules of the road.
